RECORD-SETTING GENEROSITY MAKES NEW TREATMENTS FOR BREAST CANCER IN SASKATCHEWAN POSSIBLE

The 25th annual C95 Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research raised a record-setting $516,321 for Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan during today’s 12-hour live broadcast.

Tara Wiberg was diagnosed in January 2024 at the age 32. She started chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy shortly afterwards, and is currently in active treatment. She shared her story during today’s broadcast and emphasized the importance of research.

“If it wasn’t for research, I wouldn’t be on immunotherapy – and that’s what’s going to keep me alive long enough to see my kids grow up,” Tara stated. “Hopefully my daughter doesn’t ever go through this, and I hope that research can find a cure.”

The community’s donations help brave individuals like Tara live longer, healthier lives with their families, and will be used by Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan to support breast cancer research – helping Saskatchewan researchers find new treatments for those affected by breast cancer every year.

“Thank you to C95 and the incredible donors who made this year’s radio marathon such an amazing success,” said Nora Yeates, CEO of the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan. “All the money raised will stay right here at home, to help advance breast cancer research for women in our province.”

Since it began, C95 Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research has raised more than $6.9 million for breast cancer research with one hundred percent of proceeds staying in Saskatchewan.

The Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan is the fundraising partner of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Every dollar raised by the Foundation stays in the province supporting patient treatment and care, research, plus early detection and prevention programs.

Together, we’ve raised over $6.4 million!

How YOUR Contribution Helps

It’s estimated in 2024 that 780 Saskatchewan women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
A projected 180 women in Saskatchewan will lose their lives from breast cancer each year.

Understanding how breast cancer develops and why it spreads is a key focus of the
Saskatchewan Cancer Agency’s research team.

Last year, 37,000 screening mammograms were provided through the Screening Program for Breast Cancer. It’s the number one diagnosed form of cancer in women, and very treatable if detected early.

Every dollar raised stays in Saskatchewan to support research and find new treatments and programs for breast cancer that help save lives. All money raised will be donated to Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, the fundraising partner of Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.

About C95 Radio Marathon

The C95 Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research began in October of 2000
when C95 Morning Show host, Lisa Rendall, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Upon Lisa’s stage four diagnosis, her immediate wish was to raise money to support breast cancer research
and find new treatments to help people affected by the disease live longer, healthier lives.
With inspiration from Lisa, the C95 Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer Research was born.

Lisa passed away on April 13, 2011.
Her legacy lives on today through the C95 Radio Marathon, the people of Saskatchewan and the contributions they make year after year.

Read more about Lisa’s story here.

Since it began, the C95 Radio Marathon has grown to the largest and most successful fundraising event
supporting the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan
all thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters throughout Saskatchewan.
