Drive-thru option added to annual poppy campaign in Saskatoon

You can now pin a poppy to your jacket to pay tribute to the men and women who have served our country.

The poppy campaign launched Friday in Saskatoon.

“By wearing the poppy, we demonstrate our gratitude to those who served our country and for the freedoms we enjoy. The donations we receive as part of the Poppy Campaign work year-round to support veterans’ needs,” said Diane Robson, Saskatoon Poppy Fund Chair.

Over the past 10 years, the Saskatoon Poppy Fund has invested $1.2 million for local causes including shelter, transportation, medical aids, bursaries for veterans’ dependents, support for cadet squadrons and the Veterans Village at Sherbrooke Community Centre.

People can make a donation electronically, over the phone, mail or in person at any legion branch.

Also for the first time this year, the Saskatoon Poppy Fund is holding a Poppy drive-thru on Halloween from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch #63 – 606 Spadina Crescent West

  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch #362 – 3021 Louise Street East

  • TVS Branch #78 – 5 Hangar Road

  • ANAVETS #38 – 359 1st Avenue North

This event is being held in lieu of the traditional Cadet Tag Day because of the restrictions around COVID-19.

Attendees are strongly encouraged to wear masks. Volunteers will be observing all public health recommendations and protocols.
