Father Vachon switches to online learning after positive COVID-19 case

Students at Father Vachon elementary in Saskatoon have moved to online learning this week after a positive case of COVID-19 forced the school to close.

In a news release, the Greather Saskatoon Catholic School Division said they were informed about the case from the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) on Monday.

SHA said the individual was in multiple locations in the building and came into contact with equipment and supplies. Contact tracing is underway.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of the SHA, we have made the decision to close the school and move to online learning effective October 13 through October 21. Caretaking staff will do a deep clean of the building,” the release stated.

“We are working with Public Health to inform parents and caregivers. We are also assessing student access to, and need for, technology at home to facilitate online learning.”

The school division did not say if the infected person is a student or staff member.
